Rumor: Windows 8 Beta In July 2012

The next big step for Microsoft is the compilation of the first beta of the upcoming operating system Windows 8. Development is currently at the end of Milestone 3, and it could be a matter of days and not weeks or months before the first beta hits the release channels.

While that does not necessarily mean that the first beta builds will become the public beta that Microsoft has promised earlier in development, it is clear that the development is progressing in a fast pace.

Most Windows experts expect the public Windows 8 beta to be released during the Build conference held in September 2011. This would give Microsoft ample time to produce the public beta release and several internal beta builds to make sure the public beta is as thoroughly tested as possible.

Source of the rumor is Russian news site MSwin, which reveals that the beta will be released between July 14 and 28.

It is not clear if Microsoft will release a second public Windows 8 beta after the first or move on to the release candidate directly. The Windows 8 release candidate is expected to be released in January during the International CES.

From there it could be a matter of months until the operating system is released to retail channels. This would fall into line with recent rumors that Microsoft plans to release the Windows 8 RTM in April 2012.
